NEW YORK (KRON/AP) – U2 frontman Bono is partnering with eyewear company Revo in an effort to help provide better eye care to the underserved.
The “Buy Vision, Give Sight” campaign aims to raise $10 million for screening, eyeglasses, and other assistance to underprivileged individuals. As part of the campaign, Revo will donate $10 for each pair of eyeglasses it sells, and the U2 lead singer will introduce his own line of Revo sunglasses in the fall. Bono has been wearing those sunglasses from his line on U2’s sold-out tour.
The rock musician has a history of vision problems, diagnosed with glaucoma two decades ago. He says his eyesight is OK now. But he said in a statement released Thursday that “tens of millions of people around the world with sight problems don’t have access to glasses, or even a basic eye test.”
He called sight a “human right.”
The 55-year-old singer is known for his activism and philanthropy.
