BERKELEY (KRON) — Police asked residents of a Berkeley neighborhood to remain indoors on Monday as officers fanned out to search for a man believed to be armed and wanted in the robbery of a laundromat.

Investigators say the robbery happened in the 2400 block of Sacramento Street Monday morning at about 8:30 a.m. The incident prompted officers to search the neighborhood for the robber, who is believed to be armed, according to police.

The robber is described as a black man younger than 30-years-old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a slim build, police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats said. He was wearing a long-sleeved gray hooded sweatshirt during the robbery and may have silver teeth, investigators said.

Police advised residents in the area to stay inside their homes and call 911 if they see or hear anything suspicious.
