SAN BRUNO (KRON) — Approximately 15 million gallons of water spilled out after a 54 inch pipe broke at the Crystal Springs reservoir around 9:30 p.m. Monday night.
The water main break happened at 1801 Crystal Spring Road located in Junipero Serra County Park, with wasted water flowing out until officials shut it off 11 a.m. Tuesday. The potable lost water was unable to be saved, and flowed down streams eventually ending up in the Bay.
The water leak went unfixed for thirteen and a half hours, but officials explain they had to wait so that water pressure in surrounding neighborhoods wouldn’t be affected.
Even though the break occurred in San Bruno, the San Francisco Water Department is handling the case, because they control all water coming out of the Hetch Hetchy Valley.
