PETALUMA (BCN) — Sprinklers doused a fire in an office of an embroidery business in a Petaluma warehouse Sunday evening but the water caused damage estimated at $50,000, fire officials said.

Firefighters who responded to an alarm around 7:30 p.m. found water flowing from under the office and warehouse doors and the smell of smoke at catstudio, a business located at 1340 Industrial Ave.

Three sprinklers put out the fire that started on a desk in the office building, Petaluma Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Schach said. The cause is under investigation.

The company, named after its founders Carmel and Terrell Swan, makes hand-embroidered pillows, towels, glasses, mugs, plates and totes with college, holiday and geographic themes, according to its website.

No one was working at the business Sunday, but the owners arrived and coordinated the response of a local restoration company, Schach said.

The office sustained moderate fire and smoke damage, and there was minor flooding to an adjoining unit, Schach said.

Cal Fire and Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District crews also responded to the fire, Schach said.
