SANTA CLARA (KRON) — Thursday night is the big test for new parking arrangements around Levi’s Stadium, since it is the first weeknight game for the San Francisco 49ers.
Plenty of prep went into parking for Thursday’s fourth preseason game against the San Diego Chargers.
The 49ers said they have about 20,000 parking spots, including stadium lots and nearby businesses. One private lot is charging $50 a space.
Because of last year’s parking snafus, many fans adjusted their plans.
Those who live nearby said they are still getting used to their new neighbors. Signs warn fans not to park in neighborhoods, but that does not always stop them.
Stickers give locals an easier time getting in and out of their own homes during events. Parking lots opened four hours before the game, spacing out the arrival of fans coming for some after-work fun.
So, the real test is when they all leave at once.
There are 70,000 tickets for the game — and that’s a lot of people leaving all at once. The stadium has added extra exits to many parking lots.
