SANTA ROSA (BCN) — A Santa Rosa teen was arrested Monday on suspicion of beating her infant child, a Sonoma County sheriff’s sergeant said.
Monserrat Salgado, 19, was arrested Monday morning on two felony counts each of child abuse and inflicting great bodily injury while committing a felony, Sgt. Cecile Focha said.
The 2 1/2-month-old girl was taken to a local hospital’s emergency room around 11:20 a.m. Sunday. She had suffered multiple serious injuries and medical staff alerted the sheriff’s office, Focha said.
The baby was taken to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland for specialized treatment, Focha said.
Sheriff’s detectives interviewed the family and Salgado could not adequately explain the circumstances regarding the baby’s injuries, Focha said.
Salgado was arraigned in Sonoma County Superior Court and her next court date is Tuesday morning. She is being held in lieu of $160,000 bail in the Sonoma County Jail.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incident and is not releasing more information, Focha said.
