MONTEREY CO. (BCN) — Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 20-year-old man Friday evening after the man had allegedly robbed two businesses within less than an hour in unincorporated communities in Monterey County.
Around 7 p.m., sheriff’s deputies received a report of a robbery at a liquor store, located at 8005 San Miguel Road in Prunedale, according to sheriff’s officials.
At about 7:40 p.m., deputies then received another report of a robbery at a Burger King restaurant, located at 11290 Merritt St. in Castroville, sheriff’s officials said.
The suspect made off with a total of about $200 in cash, according to police.
After speaking with witnesses, deputies determined the two robberies were most likely committed by the same suspect.
Deputies were able to gather a description of the suspect and his vehicle and located him a short time later at a hotel in Seaside, according to sheriff’s officials.
The suspect was identified as Marina resident Shaunne Katoa, according to officials.
Deputies are investigating whether Katoa may be responsible for other robberies in the area, sheriff’s officials said.
