SAN RAMON (KRON) — With more than 400 small earthquakes reported in a two-week period in the San Ramon area, an increasing number of pets are reportedly getting anxious, dealing with these conditions.
One East Bay pet hospital is trying to help pets cope and assist their owners with their pets needs. Dr. Ashley Atkin, of the Bollinger Canyon Animal Hospital, said these can be unsettling times for pets, as the San Ramon area continues to get rocked by a large series of earthquakes.
“It is tough because they are unpredictable, so we need to help them,” Atkin said.
Dr. Atkin said what they are hearing from pet owners is alot of anxiety
“The dogs are pacing, nervous,” Atkin said.
To help soothe the nerves, Dr. Atkin has some recommendations.
“Pet them, give them positive feedback,” he said.
The pet hospital also offers an array of collars and sprays that can help. And if that doesn’t work out, Dr. Sandy Block said the hospital could prescribe Prozac.
Dr. Block said there is a silver lining to these quakes — a chance to get prepared for the big one. And besides making sure you have food, medicine, and an extra collar, there is also this tip.
“Get your dog (or) pet chipped, and take a picture, so if they do get out, you can claim easily,” Block said.
