LAS VEGAS (AP) – Authorities are investigating a shooting at a high school in suburban Las Vegas that has left a 16-year-old boy dead.

North Las Vegas Police Officer Aaron Patty says the shooting happened when the teen was outside Mojave High School around 4 p.m. Friday.

It’s unknown if the shooting involved a student associated with the school, but the boy was found in the street with a gunshot wound.

He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Patty says investigators are still trying to interview several people. According to Patty, between 40 and 50 kids were congregating near school grounds but not all of them were students at Mojave.

That’s when a fight broke out and witnesses say they heard at least two shots.

There were no other injuries.

Police do not have a description of a suspect. The boy’s identity will be released after the family is notified.

Principal Antonio Rael announced on Twitter that all weekend activities, including athletic practices, have been canceled.
