LAKE COUNTY (KRON) — 911 calls from the Valley Fire on Sept. 12 have been released by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

And they indicate how many people underestimated just how fast that fire was growing. At first, people were calling 911 dispatchers asking for information, with some beginning to wonder if they might have to evacuate.

And it is only gradually that those callers became more stressful and more aware of just how terrible the wildfire is that was closing in.

The people you hear on those calls all made it out safely. But the Valley Fire killed four people, injured four firefighters, and destroyed 76,000 acres in Lake, Sonoma and Napa counties.

Nearly 2,000 homes were destroyed. Watch the above video to hear some of the 911 calls.
