SAN BERNARDINO (CNN, AP) — The brother-in-law of one of the suspects says he was stunned to hear of his relative’s involvement in Wednesday’s shooting.
Farhan Khan, who is married to the sister of Syed Farook, spoke to reporters at the Anaheim office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Khan says he last spoke to Farook about a week ago. He added that he had “absolutely no idea why he would do this. I am shocked myself.”
The family has not been able to track down recently named suspect Syed Farook or his wife since Wednesday morning, said Hussam Ayloush, executive director of CAIR (the Council on American Islamic Relations).
Khan told reporters: “I have no idea why he would he do something like this. I have absolutely no idea. I am in shock myself.” Khan said he last talked to Farook a week ago.
Khan says other family members asked him to speak at the news conference, and to express their sadness over the shootings.
One of the suspects involved in the San Bernardino shootings was identified as Farook, an inspector with the county health department, who abruptly left the event at the Inland Regional Center before the shootings, multiple law enforcement sources tell CNN.
