SEASIDE (BCN) — A report of a suspicious package that prompted evacuations in Seaside this morning turned out to be somebody’s lunch, police said.

Around 8:30 a.m., a Department of Defense employee was leaving their home in the 900 block of Charles Avenue and noticed a plastic foam box next to their car, deputy police Chief Louis Lumpkin said.

The resident notified officers, who responded to the scene to evacuate nearby homes and businesses, Lumpkin said.

A Monterey County sheriff’s bomb squad responded to the scene, where they evaluated the box and opened it to find someone’s lunch, according to Lumpkin.

Evacuation orders were lifted and the scene was cleared by 12:30 p.m., Lumpkin said.
