SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – The priest at the funeral Mass of a Virginia police officer killed on her first day on the job says her family came to know “the unspoken fear” that only those in law enforcement can know.

The Rev. Mark Stelzer said Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springfield, Massachusetts, that he was touched by the great respect fellow officers had for Officer Ashley Guindon.

The 28-year-old Prince William County officer was killed Feb. 27 while responding to a domestic dispute at a home in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Hundreds of officers stood at attention outside the church before the Mass. Dozens of police motorcycles and cars escorted the hearse to St. Thomas the Apostle cemetery in West Springfield, where Guindon will be laid to rest next to her father.
