FONTANA, Calif. (AP) – Authorities are looking for the driver of an SUV that struck and killed a man who was inspected a flat tire along State Route 210 in Fontana.
California Highway Patrol Officer Jesus Garcia says the hit-and-run happened early Sunday on the shoulder of the freeway.
Garcia said 55-year-old Jose Alvarado of Pomona and two others got out of a vehicle to check out a blown tire. One of the trio saw a white SUV heading toward them and jumped back into the vehicle, but Alvarado didn’t have time to react.
He was struck and thrown about 40 feet.
Garcia said the SUV was last seen on the Cherry Avenue exit.
