CASTRO VALLEY (KRON) — A 27-year-old man was found suffering a fatal gunshot wound Sunday night in unincorporated Castro Valley, Alameda County sheriff’s officials said Monday.

In a 911 call received at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, it was reported that a man was lying on the ground after being shot behind medical offices at 19830 Lake Chabot Road, Sgt. Ray Kelly said.

The man was found bleeding, suffering a gunshot wound to the head in a secluded parking lot behind a four-unit health care business building, Kelly said.

He was taken across the street to Eden Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m. Monday, Kelly said.

Kelly said preliminary information indicates that the man was in the parking lot, which is not visible from the street, with a suspect as well as a friend of the victim before the shooting.

For unknown reasons, a gun was brandished and the victim was shot in the head, Kelly said. The victim’s friend and the suspect both fled the scene.

Kelly said it appears some type of meeting took place and ultimately went awry behind the offices, which were closed during the incident. A motive has not been determined, he said.

Officers later contacted the friend. He has been cooperative with investigators and is not currently being considered a suspect in the shooting, Kelly said.

Investigators are still gathering information from that person, as well as canvassing the neighborhood to find additional witnesses and collecting any available video surveillance.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time, pending notification of the next of kin, Kelly said.
