SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A former San Francisco security guard has been arrested for alleged animal cruelty after surveillance video showed him brutally kicking a small dog in March while on-duty at a grocery store, according to the district attorney’s office.
The incident happened on March 16. Charles Moore was working as a security guard at a Safeway, located at 2300 16th street, San Francisco Animal Care and Control officials said.
Moore is accused of getting into a confrontation with a man who had a small male Chihuahua mix with him. During the confrontation, Moore allegedly intentionally kicked the dog twice, ACC officials said.
Following the assault, the dog, named Rosco, ran away.
Rosco was later fatally struck by a car near Fell and Pierce streets. A Good Samaritan transported Rosco to the San Francisco Pet Hospital, where a scan of his body revealed a microchip, which led to the dog’s owner, according to ACC officials.
The original incident in which Moore kicked the dog was captured on the store’s surveillance video.
Moore will be charged with felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor battery, San Francisco District Attorney spokesman Alex Bastian said.
Moore’s bail has been set at $50,000 and no court date has been scheduled yet, according to Bastian.
Moore faces fines of up to $20,000 and possibly jail time for the incident, ACC officials said.Bay City News contributed to this report
