(BCN) — A blaze in a hay field developed into a 15-acre vegetation fire in unincorporated Contra Costa County near Byron Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said today.

Firefighters responded at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a fire in a rural area near Byron Highway and Herdlyn Road, according to East Contra

Costa Fire Protection District officials.

Around 10 acres of a cut hay field was burning with numerous hay bails engulfed in flames. Crews battled the spreading fire and contained it

to 15 acres, according to the fire district.

Fire crews from several jurisdictions helped stamp the fire out.

There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire was not determined but it appears to be accidental in nature, according to the fire district.
