SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) – On this Labor Day, supporters of workers’ rights, and Black Lives Matter took their messages to the Golden Gate Bridge.

The demonstrations were peaceful but some questioned why they were not allowed to cross over the bridge.

CHP tells KRON4 they are still gathering information and details about the event, including why the group was not initially allowed to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.

A few hundred people attended the event called Reclaim Golden Gate but there was a very large presence from CHP.

Eventually, demonstrators were allowed to cross but officers were on bikes, and on foot making sure that no one hopped the fence, and impacted traffic on 101.

Those taking part in the demonstrations raised awareness of the brutality against Black Americans, specifically Jacob Blake, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Daniel Prude.

Some groups used the event as a chance to register voters for the upcoming election.

Still a lot of people were wondering why the bridge was shut down, even though organizers did reportedly file a permit for the event.

Video also showed officers putting at least one man in handcuffs from the event.
