(KRON) — A letter sent home to parents about a second-grade teacher’s new homework policy is going viral.

“I am trying something new,” Brandy Young, a teacher in the Godley Independent School District, wrote in her note. “Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year.”

The teacher said that research has been unable to prove that homework actually improves student performance.

Instead of homework, the teacher suggested that parents spend their evening eating dinner as a family, reading together, playing outside and getting your child to bed early.CNN contributed to this report
