ANTIOCH (KRON) — Antioch police have arrested a suspect accused of hitting an officer with a stolen car, leading to the officer firing shots at the car, according to Sgt. Tom Fuhrmann.
The incident happened on Tuesday at around 3:17 p.m. Police said they found a stolen Mercedes parked on Plymouth Lane with the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Kary of Lafayette, getting into the car.
According to Fuhrmann, as officers tried to take Kary into custody, ordering him out of the car, he backed up the car into an officer. The officer then shot at the car, police said.
Officers eventually pulled Kary from the car, and he further resisted arrest, police said. He was eventually taken into custody.
Kary sustained minor injuries during his struggle with officers. The officer hit by the car Kary was driving was not hurt, Furhmann said.
Nobody was hit by gunfire.
Kary will be booked into the Contra Costa County Jail on charges of auto theft and assault with a deadly weapon on an officer.
