SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Governor Gavin Newsom has extended the closure of bars and indoor dining statewide, and has ordered gyms, churches, and hair salons closed in most counties as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations keep rising.

Effective today, the state is requiring ALL COUNTIES to close indoor activities and operations in the following sectors:

  • Restaurants
  • Wineries and Tasting Rooms
  • Movie Theaters
  • Family Entertainment Centers
  • Zoos and Museums
  • Cardrooms
  • Bars must close ALL operations

Additionally, all 30 counties on the state’s COVID-19 monitoring list should close additional indoor operations for more sectors due to risk of virus spread.

Any additional county opening variance is now prohibited.

Additional INDOOR OPERATIONS in the following sectors that must cease in the 30 counties on the watch list are:

  • Fitness Centers
  • Worship Services
  • Offices for Non-Critical Sectors
  • Personal Care Services
  • Hair Salons and Barbershops
  • Malls

The 30 counties required to close indoor operations are:

  • Contra Costa
  • Fresno
  • Glenn
  • Imperial
  • Kern
  • Kings
  • LA
  • Madera
  • Marin
  • Merced
  • Monterey
  • Napa
  • Orange
  • Placer
  • Riverside
  • Sacramento
  • San Benito
  • San Bernardino
  • San Diego
  • San Joaquin
  • Santa Barbara
  • Solano
  • Sonoma
  • Stanislaus
  • Sutter
  • Tulare
  • Yolo
  • Yuba
  • Ventura

According to the governor, California now has a COVID-19 positivity rate at 7.4% with more increases in hospitalizations and ICU patients statewide.

California confirmed 8,358 new coronavirus cases on Sunday. Hospitalizations increased 28% over the past two weeks.

Within the past 24 hours, nearly two dozen people have died from coronavirus, Newsom said.

“COVID-19 isn’t going away anytime soon and Californians must adapt to new behaviors to slow the spread,” he added. “Don’t mix with people you don’t live with, wear a mask, physically distance, wash your hands, and if you must mix with others, take it outside.”

Gov. Newsom said Alameda County is likely to be placed on the COVID-19 watch list in the coming days.
