(KRON) — Flooding has shut down Highway 101 in Morgan Hill.KRON4’S REAL TIME TRAFFIC MAPS

KRON4’s Dan Kerman was in Morgan Hill. Dan has confirmed that a levee breach has sent the water pouring onto the northbound lanes. Caltrans did not expect to have the roadway cleared until 11 p.m. Wednesday.

But on Tuesday night, crews told KRON4 the roadway is expected to reopen early Wednesday morning.

Santa Clara Valley Water District crews were cutting a new canal Tuesday afternoon to divert water away from a levy break on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Morgan Hill, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Southbound lanes remain open.

CHP officers issued a Sig-alert at 1:05 p.m.

The closure has caused state Highway 1 to be “extremely slow and backed up” to Mar Monte Avenue in Santa Cruz County, CHP officers said at 2:48 p.m.

KRON4 viewers have sent us photos while sitting in traffic. You can see cars attempting to go through the water.

Since then, the CHP has shut down those lanes.
