BERKELEY (KRON) – A restaurant supervisor at the DoubleTree Hotel in Berkeley has been charged for raping a woman in a hotel room back in June, according to the Berkeley Police Department.
The suspect, identified as 64-year-old Isaac Amiga from San Leandro, was charged on December 24 by the District Attorney with felony rape by use of drugs and felony rape of an unconscious person.
On June 5, authorities say the victim was having dinner at the DoubleTree restaurant located at 200 Marina Boulevard.
Amiga paid for the woman’s meal and brought her a free glass of wine.
The victim told police that she started to feel ‘weird’ and blacked-out.
The next thing the victim remembers is being sexually assaulted hours laters.
DNA evidence was collected and led detectives to Amiga.
He was then arrested on suspicion of rape.
“When detectives contacted the suspect, he denied any involvement, but there was DNA evidence so he was later arrested and he has since been charged with rape,” Officer Byron White said.
Police were unable to confirm if or what type of drug was used.
KRON4 asked if authorities were familiar with Amiga or if any incidents like this have happened at this hotel in the past, but they said they were unable to answer those questions.
The DoubleTree released a statement on the incident:
“We have no higher priority than our guests’ personal safety. When we were notified by local authorities about this allegation we pledged our full and complete cooperation, which we have provided and will continue. Mr. Amiga was placed on administrative leave and barred from the property when we were notified of the allegation. He has since been terminated. Out of respect for the criminal justice process, we will have no further comment and defer to the authorities going forward.”
