MARIN COUNTY (KRON) — A California State Prison-Sacramento inmate convicted of a murder in Marin County was killed in his cell on Monday, according to prison Lt. Tony Quinn.

Correctional officers found the 53-year-old male inmate unresponsive in his cell around 8:20 p.m., prison spokesman Lt. Tony Quinn said. Despite lifesaving measures by custodial and medical staff, the inmate was pronounced dead at 8:48 p.m.

The deceased inmate’s cellmate, Rambo M. Martin, 26, is a suspect in the murder, Quinn said.

The deceased inmate has been in prison since June 10, 1983, and he was serving a life term with the possibility of parole for a first-degree murder in Marin County, Quinn said.

Prison staff have not been able to contact the person that the inmate listed as his sole next of kin, Quinn said.

Martin is serving eight years in prison for an assault with a firearm in San Bernardino County and a 4-year sentence from Kern County for assault by a prisoner with a deadly weapon, Quinn said.

Martin has been in prison since November 2013, Quinn said.Bay City News contributed to this report
