LAFAYETTE (KRON) — A fast-moving grass fire that broke out Sunday afternoon in Lafayette burned three homes and forced residents to evacuate.
The five-acre fire broke out in the area north of Highway 24 and east of Pleasant Hill Road.
By 3:30 p.m., crews were able to stop the forward progress of the fire.
The grass fire crested the hill behind The Tennis Club on Camino Diablo.
Fire officials say The Tennis Club building is a total loss.
The area south of Old Tunnel Road and between El Curtola Blvd and Pleasant Hill Road is under an immediate evacuation order.
An immediate evacuation order is also issued for the area between Camino Diablo and Springbrook Road.
Fire evacuations North and South of Highway 24 have since been lifted.

Residents in those areas are being told to leave now.
Evacuees should go towards Springhill Elementary School at 3301 Springhill Road in Lafayette, according to officials.
If you are physically unable to leave your home unassisted, call 911 for help.
The fire is burning along Highway 24. Even though all lanes are open, drivers should expect delays heading both directions.
