SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Police say an elderly man was beaten and pepper sprayed in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood on Tuesday.

The robbery was reported around 12:10 p.m. near Leavenworth and Eddy streets.

The 78-year-old victim was approached from behind by two suspects, one of whom grabbed his cane and struck him on the head with it, according to police.

The second suspect then pepper sprayed the victim, reached into his pocket and stole cash. The suspects, a man believed to be in his 40s and a woman believed to be in her 30s, then fled and had not been found as of this morning, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to police.
