SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — If you bought a Powerball ticket in North Carolina, Puerto Rico, or Texas, you might have won a share of the $500 million jackpot up for grabs.
Wednesday night’s winning Powerball numbers are: 11, 13, 25, 39, 54, and the Powerball number is 19.
Game officials have not released further details about the winning tickets.
Officials at CALottery said that nobody in California hit the jackpot, but three tickets did match five numbers, each missing only the Powerball number.
“That has resulted in three new millionaires in California! That’s because each of these 2nd place tickets won an impressive $1.4 million apiece,” lottery officials said.
A total of 677,042 tickets sold in the state were also winners of varying amounts, including the retailers that sold them the tickets, according to officials.
Sales of Powerball tickets soared in advance of Wednesday night’s $500 million Powerball drawing, the fifth largest lottery prize in U.S. history.
One of California’s three winning tickets was sold at Pop Top Market & Liquor, located at 14817 East 14th Street in San Leandro. The other two were sold in Mono County and Orange County.HUGE ODDS
Lottery officials want people to play Powerball and other games, but they’re quick to point out it’s all in good fun.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 175 million, so a ticket will give players a chance to dream of immense riches, but that fantasy almost certainly won’t become a reality.
But as Idaho lottery director Jeff Anderson notes: The odds can get even worse.
“If you don’t have a ticket, your chances of winning are zero,” said Anderson, who heads the Multi-State Lottery Association’s Powerball game group.
