SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — After an eight-month absence, the Art Deco clock on the Golden Gate Bridge was re-installed this weekend.  According to the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, the 8-foot clock which sits on the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza was taken down last August for modification and refurbishment.

The district’s electrical department team removed the clock’s motor, gear box, electrical wiring and neon tubes, officials said.

Over the course of eight months the clock’s parts were stripped of it’s mounting base and bare metal and were shipped back to the original manufacturer.

The clock was painted, restored and outfitted with new number decals.

The re-installation started on Friday night when a truck took the clock to the roadway at the plaza and crane lifted it to the roof where crews secured it, she said.
