PITTSBURG (KRON) — A Bay Point man was shot and killed in broad daylight Tuesday.

The murder happened at about 1 p.m. at busy Chevron gas station on 1325 California Ave., near Loveridge Road.

Police said that the victim, described as being in his 20s, was filling his van with gas and talking with some friends when the suspect confronted him and opened fire. The suspect left in an unknown direction. It is unclear what the motive was or if the victim and the suspect knew each other.

The victim died at the scene, according to police.

There was a heavy police presence for several hours after the murder. Police and crime scene technicians were busy collecting evidence and talking to witnesses trying to piece together what happened and what lead up to the shooting.

The gas station was closed down for several hours while police conducted their investigation.

Very little is known about the victim, and police would only say that he was a Bay Point resident.

Police say it is unclear if this homicide was gang related.
