OAKLAND (KRON) – Warriors guard Klay Thompson returned to practice on Monday in a major step in his recovery from the concussion he suffered last week.

The Golden State All-Star was a full participant in the practice ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night. The Warriors say Thompson still needs to receive final clearance from doctors to play.

Thompson said he feels fine despite the concussion and says that his gut feeling is that he won’t be missing the game. He also said that he received stitches on the inside part of right ear, where he received a cut. And he says he did not suffer internal bleeding.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr says he expects Thompson will be cleared to play.

Thompson suffered a concussion after getting kneed in the head by Houston Rocket’s Trevor Ariza in the Dub’s Western Conference finals clinching win on Wednesday. Team doctors evaluated Thompson and initially cleared him to return to the game, but he ended up not playing. The team said he started developing symptoms after the game.

“Honestly I just had one tough night,” Thompson said on Monday.
