SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Two people were injured and one person arrested after a car chase ended with a crash in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.

Around 5:30 on Monday, police officers in the Bayview District tried to arrest a wanted parolee in the 1400 block of Innes Street.

The man then got into a car, leading police on a chase that ended near the area of Fifth and Mission streets in the city’s SoMa neighborhood.

The chase ended when the driver hit two civilian cars, injuring at least two people in those cars.

Medics were called to the area to evaluate the injured people. At least one person was taken to the hospital. The other was treated and released at the scene.

The suspect was captured and taken into custody. He has been identified as 24-year-old Michael Cortez.

Cortez is a documented member of a violent prison gang and was flagged as armed and dangerous.

He was on parole for felony assault and on probation out of San Francisco for attempted murder. He also had a burglary warrant out of San Mateo County.
