RIVERSIDE (KRON) — PGA superstar Phil Mickelson is reportedly being linked to an illegal gambling operation.

According to ESPN, “nearly $3 million transferred from golfer Phil Mickelson to an intermediary was part of ‘an illegal gambling operation which accepted and placed bets on sporting events,’ according to two sources and court documents obtained by Outside the Lines.”

The report also says Mickelson has not been charged with a crime and is not under investigation. But his name is being tied to Gregory Silveira of La Quinta, California, a 56-year-old former bookie. Silveira, who reportedly acted “as a conduit for an offshore gambling operation, pleaded guilty last week to laundering approximately $2.75 million of money that two sources told Outside the Lines belonged to Mickelson.”

Silveira pleaded guilty to three counts of money laundering for an “unnamed client,” whom Outside the Lines sources have identified as Mickelson.

Last year, Mickelson was cleared of any wrongdoing in an insider trading investigation involving Clorox stock, and he’s also been linked to another investigation involving Dean Foods stock.
