Parents and family members in Iowa are mourning the death of 5-year-old Garrett Michael Matthias, who died of cancer last Friday, but not before preparing his own obituary.

“My name is: Garrett Michael Boffias

My birthday is: I am 5 years old

My address is: I am a Bulldog!

My favorite color is: Blue…and Red and Black and Green…”

Those lines are found at the beginning of Garrett’s obituary, spoken to his parents before he lost his battle to a rare form of pediatric cancer.

Garrett, who also went by “The Great Garrett Underpants” made up the surname Boofias because his real name was too hard for him to pronounce.

Garrett, who loved Batman, Thor, and his family, planned a funeral with five bouncy houses – one for each year he lived – snow cones, and Batman.

“I want to be burned (like when Thor’s Mommy died) and made into a tree so I can live in it when I’m a gorilla,” he wrote.

He hated pants and needles and his cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease nine months ago and died last Friday, WPLG reports.

“We never necessarily talked about his funeral so we never had the conversation with him that he was going to die, but we had a lot of conversations around it,” his mother, Emilie, told WPLG.

Garrett’s “celebration of life” will take place this Saturday, with the symbolic burial and fireworks at sunset.
