OAKLAND ( KRON/BCN) — A man was injured when he discovered a fire burning in an apartment near Oakland’s Lake Merritt this morning, a fire battalion chief said Monday.
He noticed the fire burning in an upstairs apartment in the two-story building at 1450 First Ave. and suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation when he went to investigate, Fire Battalion Chief Geoff Hunter said.
Firefighters responded to the fire at about 11:10 a.m. and found a bedroom and its contents burning inside, Hunter said. It took about 15 minutes to control the blaze.
The fire was contained to a single apartment.
Its cause is under investigation but it appears to be accidental, Hunter said.
No one else was injured.
