MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says it’s investigating a fatal shooting involving an off-duty Memphis police officer.
A TBI statement says the off-duty officer shot 29-year-old Luis Philipe Soto at a Memphis gas station Sunday night after an altercation occurred. The statement says the officer was present to witness a child visitation exchange between Soto and his ex-wife.
The TBI did not identify the officer. The agency referred questions about the officer to the Memphis Police Department, which said information about the officer wouldn’t be released until after a debriefing has occurred.
The races of Soto and the officer weren’t immediately known.
