MADERA (KRON) — A sinkhole has formed on a roadway in Madera near Fresno, according to police in the area.

A large portion of the roadway on Schnoor Avenue collapsed creating the sinkhole, police said in a Facebook post.

The cause of the 12-foot by 15-foot sinkhole is unknown but police say it is likely weather related as it has recently rained.

Part of the street fell into the sewage line. The hole is about 15 to 20 feet deep, according to authorities.

The roadway will be closed for an extended amount of time as crews work to fix the sinkhole.
