The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a Spare the Air Alert for Labor Day, making it the 11th alert for smog this year.
Residents are encouraged to reduce driving and limit outdoor exercise to early morning hours when ozone concentrations are lower.
Wood burning is highly discouraged, but not banned.
Spare the Air Alerts for smog are issued when ozone pollution is forecast to reach unhealthy levels.
If you smell smoke, protect your health by avoiding exposure. If possible, stay inside with windows and doors closed until smoke levels subside.
It is also advised to set air conditioning units and car vent systems to re-circulate to prevent outside air from moving inside.
