Oakland International Airport has become a test site for a new 3D scanner at the security checkpoint.

The new 3D scanner is not only the latest state of the art technology, but TSA officials say it will improve on safety and speed up lines.

“We believe it will help make it faster, the lines, also improve safety eventually,” Lead Transportation Security Officer Adrienne Marquez said. “It can scan all around in 3D.”

The Oakland airport is one of 15 in the country testing out the new equipment.

“What (do) the red light and blue light mean? The red light indicates the machine is on, the blue light is just pretty,” Marquez said.

The other scanners at Oakland use 2D imaging.

The TSA says it is working on expanding technology across the country.

Passengers KRON4 talked with said they like the new system.
