SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Police are searching for gunman who shot two people killing one and wounding another during an altercation at a South San Francisco park Monday afternoon.
The shooting happened at around 3 p.m. near Orange Memorial Park.
South San Francisco police officers responded to calls of an altercation involving several adults on First Lane. The fight then moved to the park and one of the subjects pulled out a gun and fire at the two victims.
When the police arrived, two victims were found shot and were immediately transported by the Fire Department to the Trauma Center, according police. One victim underwent surgery for a life threatening injury but later died. The other is in stable condition.
The deceased victim has been identified as 20-year-old Nicholas Gomez of South San Francisco.
Police say both victims were shot in the stomach.
The shooter seen leaving the scene is described as being about an adult Hispanic male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds wearing a blue windbreaker with a yellow stripe on the arm.
Police later reported that an extensive investigation led them to a person of interest identified as Christian Omar Cruz, 19, of South San Francisco. Cruz is considered armed and dangerous.
The shooting prompted a temporary lockdown at the Boys & Girls Club North San Mateo. The lockdown was lifted at around 3:30 p.m., according to staff at the center.Continue following KRON4 News for updates on this developing story.
