WARREN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One man is dead after a shooting Saturday afternoon.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace says at this time, the shooting was an act of self-defense.

Deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of Culkin Road around noon, when they found Justin Kirkley, 25, the grandson, suffering from a gunshot wound in the chest area.

Joseph Crist, 77, the grandfather, turned over a small caliber handgun to deputies when they arrived on scene.

Sheriff Pace says Crist was “bloody” and had several visible injuries.

It appears Kirkley was shot at “near, or point” blank range.

Crist is currently at a local hospital being treated for facial, neck, and head injuries.

Sheriff Pace also says this is not the first time they have responded to this residence.

The most recent call being back in December 2015.

Kirkley was charged with domestic assault against Crist.

Kirkley was currently out on bond for a murder back in 2013 and on probation for residential burglary.

This is still an open investigation.
