Two people are recovering in San Jose after a fireworks explosion inside a garage, authorities say.
According to the San Jose Police Department, the explosion happened around 3 p.m. at a home in the 4100 block of Moonflower Ct.
Officers say two men were playing with fireworks in the garage. They sustained burns to their hands, face, and parts of their torso.
A girlfriend of one of the victim’s, Taylor Poppen said, ” All I saw was the little red fireworks for Chinese New Year.
KRON4’s Ella Sogomonian asked Poppen was she surprised the small fireworks could cause extensive damage.
“Well I know when they take them apart and what not, yeah,” Poppen said. “ButIi told him he shouldn’t be doing that because its not smart.”
The two victims were transported to Valley Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Lieutenant Steve Lagorio with the San Jose Police Department had this message, “Don’t play with them they’re dangerous. When you get a lot of fireworks together and they explode the rest of them explode with them and its a bigger bang than just the one fire cracker going off.”
