A disturbing video shows a young boy in Missouri being bullied with a gun to his head–and the video is going viral.
Now, people from across the country are sending messages of love and support.
It’s circulated social media and has been seen across the country–and garnered attention around the world.
The disturbing video shows a 13-year-old boy being attacked and bullied by an older student who pointed a gun at his head.
“It has been a big response…from all over the world,” mother Emily Bridges said.
The response included Kansas City Chiefs tickets, money. and hundreds of messages of love and support.
“There’s people from the United kingdom messaging, there’s people from California, Florida, Texas,” Bridges said. “There’s people coming from Texas to do a motorcycle ride.”
That bike ride was organized by Chris and Anna Bergen after they watched the now viral video.
“I was devastated,” Anna Bergen said. “I have a 13-year-old son. I have a 12-year-old foster. I could not imagine my kids being out and attacked like that.”
The couple offered to treat the 13-year-old to his favorite spot for lunch, making a reservation for the several hundred people expected to attend.
“We just want him to see that he has friends, and he’s got support and has people that are behind him,” Bergen said.
With the support growing around the world, it’s also grown within Derrin’s own classroom.
“He said all different ages of kids, older kids, younger kids, saying, ‘Derrin, we have your back,'” Bridges said. “‘You never have to deal with that again.'”
The support is showing Derrin and his family they aren’t in this alone.
“The best thing out of it is that I think it’s going to bring a lot of awareness to our community and other communities too and to other people,” Bridges said.
