They may be served all over the world, but July 13 is National French Fry Day in the United States.

Fries are easily one of the most popular foods among Americans.

We eat about two-million tons worth every year with McDonald’s selling about one out of every three fries a year.

But the fry is not an American invention, according to National Geographic.

It says they were invented in Belgium and the name can be traced back to World War I. That’s when American troops reportedly mislabeled the food eaten by the French-speaking people .
