HAYWARD (BCN) — A transient man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of robbing a credit union in Hayward in May, police said.
Drew Austin Cary was arrested by Sacramento sheriff’s deputies on suspicion of robbing the Bay Cities Credit Union at 22777 Main St. at 1:30 p.m. on May 2.
Cary allegedly handed a teller a note demanding money and told the teller he had a gun, according to police. He allegedly ran from the credit union, changed out of a disguise and escaped capture.
Police said Cary was wearing black-rimmed glasses, a yellow blazer, light-colored pants and gray Puma tennis shoes with orange soles.
Prosecutors with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said they have charged Cary with second-degree robbery. Cary is being represented by the Office of the Alameda County Public Defender.
Cary will appear in court on July 28 at 9 a.m. to make a plea.
