SAN JOSE (KRON) — A bicyclist has died after being struck by Caltrain Friday morning in San Jose, according to officials.

At about 8 a.m., northbound Caltrain No. 329 hit a man on a bicycle at the West Virginia Street railroad crossing.

The 54-year-old man was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Trains were holding at the south end of the tracks and a bus bridge was put in place between the San Jose Diridon and Tamien stations. VTA was honoring Caltrain tickets between the two stations.

Transit Police is still investigating the early morning strike.
