MARINA (BCN) — Police arrested a 21-year-old man Thursday afternoon in Marina after officers witnessed him attempting to burglarize a car.

Around 2 p.m., officers responded to the area of Cosky Drive and Del Monte Boulevard on report of a suspicious person seen using a slim jim to enter a vehicle, according to police.

Upon arrival, officers located the man as he was attempting to remove a car stereo, police said.

After detaining the man, later identified as Jacob Chaboya, officers contacted the owner of the car and learned Chaboya did not have permission to be in the vehicle, according to police.

Upon learning Chaboya was on felony parole, officers searched a vehicle that belonged to Chaboya. Inside they found a concealed, loaded Beretta handgun and several pills for which Chaboya did not have a prescription.

Officers arrested Chaboya on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools, being a felon in possession of a loaded gun, possession of a controlled substance, as well as violating parole, police said.

He was booked into the Monterey County Jail, according to police.
