MILLBRAE (KRON) — A South San Francisco man has been arrested on Tuesday for committing lewd and lascivious acts with a 16-year-old girl, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

In late September, the girl’s mother told authorities she thought her daughter engaged in a sexual relationship with an adult co-worker, later identified as 57-year-old Michael Anthony Lopez, deputies said.

The investigation was started by Burlingame police, deputies said. The alleged acts happened in the Safeway parking lot in Millbrae, the sheriff’s office said.

“The investigation revealed that during the summer, Lopez befriended the 16-year-old while they both worked at the Safeway store in Burlingame. When he was moved to the Millbrae Safeway after suffering an injury, the victim would meet Lopez in the Safeway parking lot where the lewd and lascivious behavior would occur in his vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Lopez was arrested early Tuesday morning at the Safeway in Burlingame.

Lopez was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on 35 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor.

His bail was set at $500,000.
