SAN QUENTIN (BCN) San Quentin State Prison death row inmate Dennis Duane Webb, 65, died of unknown causes at a hospital Tuesday, a prison spokesman said.
Webb, on death row since August 1988, was sentenced to death for the Feb. 5, 1987, burglary and first-degree murders of John Rainwater, 25, and Lori Rainwater, 22, in Atascadero.
The couple were managing a 14-unit lodge when Webb broke into their home and bound and savagely beat and raped them, prison spokesman Lt. Sam Robinson said.
They tried to escape with their two children but Webb chased and murdered them in the motel parking lot, Robinson said. Their children, 15 months and seven days old, were found under Lori Rainwater’s body.
Webb, of San Luis Obispo, was paroled from a Utah prison only two months earlier, Robinson said.
The cause of his death is pending the results of an autopsy, Robinson said.
