NOVATO (KRON)– Highway 37 in Novato remained closed Thursday morning, as Caltrans workers build a metal wall to keep water off of the road.
The metal beam is about 15-feet deep and extends 3-feet above ground.
The highway is no stranger to rising floodwaters during the winter storm period.
On Saturday, 330 million gallons of water covered the highway.
Caltrans is determining whether to add another layer of cement.
The soil underneath the cement may buckle.
The metal wall is a temporary fix.
Crew workers expect to return to the area after the last round of storms push through to do the permanent restoration.
The highway is shut down in both directions as crews work to build the wall along the eastbound lanes.
Caltrans has no estimate of when the highway will be reopened.
