MONTEREY COUNTY (KRON) — Murder charges will be filed against a suspect in the cold case murder of Christina Williams.
District Attorney Dean D. Flippo announced Thursday that Charles Allen Holifield will be charged with the 1998 murder and kidnapping of 13 year-old Christina Marie Williams.
Charles Holifield, 56, will be charged next Friday with first-degree murder with special allegations of kidnapping and lewd acts on a child.
Holifield will be eligible for the death penalty if he is convicted.
Christina went missing in June 1998 while walking the family dog in her Fort Ord neighborhood.
Within 45 minutes of leaving, her mother found the dog wandering by itself with the leash still attached. Christina was nowhere to be found.
Her family contacted the police immediately but despite a widespread search, she was never seen alive again.
Exactly seven months after her disappearance, Christina’s remains were discovered in a remote area of the old military base.
Holifield was arrested in August 1999 for the attempted kidnapping of a woman in the same area where Christina disappeared.
In 2016, a cold case unit linked evidence found at the crime scene and came up with a DNA connection to Holifield.
He is currently serving 25 years to life at Valley State Prison in Chowchilla for attempted kidnapping and making criminal threats against a woman in September of 1998.
His prior strikes include forcible rape, kidnapping and assault with intent to commit rape.
